Electrical Project

Residents of our village of Pignon saw the light, the first streetlights that is, of our
new electrical co-operative in February 2005.  This project began with a donation
of a large diesel generator which was powerful enough to power a whole
community.  By partnering with the
National Rural Electrical Co-ops of America,
we've been able to watch this project blossom.  Currently 110 homes receive 5
hours of power each night.  Each member of the co-op pays their own costs;
saving 60-75% of conventional fuel costs.  (i.e. kerosene lights, candles, etc.)
The next planned phase will include providing power to many more homes.
These NRECA volunteers
from MN aren't used to
working around palm
trees.  Area residents
were impressed with their
climbing skills though,
and were glad that they
wouldn't be here for
mango season to be
competition in harvesting
that tasty fruit!
Our volunteer linesmen from the
states also weren't used to the
enthusiastic  crowds that
watched every move to bring
power to their community.
